Located in the Brianza region north of Milan, not far from Lago di Montorfano and Lake Como, Circolo Golf Villa d’Este stands as one of the most traditional golf courses in Northern Italy. Situated at approximately 450 meters above sea level, the elevated location offers pleasant playing conditions and a surprisingly green landscape that is reminiscent of Scotland.
Originally designed by Peter Gannon in 1926, the 18-hole course winds through dense forests of chestnuts, birches, and pines. The hilly terrain, water hazards, and varied layout demand much more than just length. With a par of 69, Villa d’Este presents itself as a technically challenging course where precision and sound course management play a crucial role.
The contrast between the elegant atmosphere of the region and the original character of the golf course is especially appealing. Fairways frequently disappear among the trees before opening up new perspectives of the surrounding landscape. Thanks to its altitude, playing golf here remains relatively comfortable even during the warmer summer months.
Its proximity to Como and Lake Como makes Circolo Golf Villa d’Este an attractive part of a golf trip through Northern Italy. Golf can be perfectly combined here with Italian gastronomy, historical sites, and a few days at the lake.
Our impression: Villa d’Este is a course for golfers who appreciate classic golf architecture and strategically demanding holes. The historic character, wooded landscape, and varied terrain provide a golfing experience that clearly differs from typical Mediterranean resort courses in Italy.
